چکیده

UNLABELLED We investigate the scalability of the temperature- and electric field-dependence of the conductivity of disordered organic semiconductors to 'universal' curves by two different but commonly employed methods; by so-called universal scaling and by using the effective temperature concept. Experimentally both scaling methods were found to be equally applicable to the out-of-plane charge transport in PEDOT PSS thin films of various compositions. Both methods are shown to be equivalent in terms of functional dependence and to have identical limiting behavior. The experimentally observed scaling behavior can be reproduced by a numerical nearest-neighbor hopping model, accounting for the Coulomb interaction, the high charge carrier concentration and the energetic disorder. The underlying physics can be captured in a simple empirical model, describing the effective temperature of the charge carrier distribution as the outcome of a heat balance between Joule heating and (effective) temperature-dependent energy loss to the lattice.

Modifying the thermal conductivity of small molecule organic semiconductor thin films with metal nanoparticles

Thermal properties of organic semiconductors play a significant role in the performance and lifetime of organic electronic devices, especially for scaled-up large area applications. Here we employ silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) to modify the thermal conductivity of the small molecule organic semiconductor, dinaphtho[2,3-b:2',3'-f]thieno[3,2-b]thiophene (DNTT). The differential 3-ω method was use...

Quantitative analysis of delocalization in the vicinity of the metal–insulator transition in doped semiconductors

A temperature-induced crossover from hopping to metallic conductivity is observed for barely insulating samples of Ge:As and Ge:Sb with impurity concentration N just below the critical value Nc0. The values of the correlation length ξ are obtained on both sides of the transition. A method is developed for determination of a ‘delocalization temperature’ Td , which separates the hopping and metal...

Universal scaling of the conductivity at the superfluid-insulator phase transition.

The scaling of the conductivity at the superfluid-insulator quantum phase transition in two dimensions is studied by numerical simulations of the Bose-Hubbard model. In contrast to previous studies, we focus on properties of this model in the experimentally relevant thermodynamic limit at finite temperature T. We find clear evidence for deviations from omega k scaling of the conductivity toward...

Low temperature magneto-conductivity properties of micro-sized Ag/HD-PE metal/polymers

A composite material of a polyethylene matrix filled by a fine silver powder was prepared with different Ag contents and physical behaviours ranging from insulator to conductor. Ac differential magnetic susceptibility χ measurements show the samples are paramagnetic up to an Ag concentration of ∼65%. At low temperatures the composite is spin-glass type, whereas the transition from insulator to ...

Influence of traps on charge transport in organic semiconductors

The effect of extrinsic traps on the charge transport in organic semiconductors has been investigated. An analytical model describing hopping transport with traps is formulated on the basis of percolation theory. The results show that the presence of a trap distribution with energy offset and width different from that of the intrinsic density of states does not change the basic phenomenology of...
